Samsung was preparing for COMDEX, the largest IT tradeshow in the industry. Their showcase booth featured most of their newest products, including "IP Phone" technology, Internet-ready video phones, Bluetooth wireless products, and many different personal electronic devices. To demonstrate these products, they needed a high-speed connection to the Internet and an extensive network throughout their tradeshow booth.

Samsung's IT team considered implementing this network solution using internal resources, but approached The PinPoint Group for recommendations as well. Within two days, The PinPoint Group provided a complete proposal for a network solution that met all of Samsung's requirements. With COMDEX only two weeks away, PPG built the system in our lab and tested the functionality.

The system was comprised of several components. A rack was built which contained two redundant Compaq Proliant ML370 P3/1000 servers with RAID storage, four 24-port NetGear 10/100 switching hubs, integrated Cat-5 patch panels, a 3Com OfficeConnect firewall with Web Blocking capabilities, and a Cisco combo Router/DSU. The complete solution provided the following services to the displays at Samsung's booth:

• Shared File and Print Services
• Network Address Translation
• Firewall Protection
• Web Content Filtering
• Cat-5 10/100 Auto-Sensing Switched Ethernet drops for up to 96 clients
